Good afternoon!

NaNo is through, I was successful. Now it's time to see what's on the list for December. I have several busy weeks ahead. Shopping. Wrapping. Job hunting. Cleaning. But I'm definitely planning on a lot of writing.

I'm focusing on two fics for sure, with others trickling in on the edges for the sake of variety.

First and foremost, I'm working on finishing my m/m urban fantasy romance Shady Hill (title subject to change). This one has gone through several plot revisions but I now have a clear picture of how I want it to go. I'm about four-fifths of the way done with the first draft. If I can stamp complete on this, I'll be a happy writer.

I'm leaving East of Eden edits for 2015.

I hope to write and post some ficlets, too. Little glimpses into all these stories. I don't want to waste this opportunity to get some writing work done.

You can always ask me about the progress of anything I haven't mentioned. I don't mind one bit. :)

Huzzah!! I did it!

Nano Big Winner 2014 photo Winner-2014-Web-Banner_zps554ee45d.jpg

That's 35,133 words of East of Eden (42534 actually, but I'd had 7401 already written) and 15,833 of assorted fanfictions for a grand total of.....
51,016 words. Phew! For awhile there, I didn't think I would make it but I did. Go me!

Now expect to see more little fics trickle in. I'm currently jobless so I'm hoping that means lots and lots of writing time, that is when I'm not job hunting and interviewing. Updates will return in December, including War of the Animum. Excitement!

Big thanks to everyone who provided prompts and encouragement. I did manage to fill every single prompt given to me (save one which is still in progress because it decided it's not a little fic, it's a long one) so be looking for those.

n_wilkinson: (bluesummerdaydream)
So. I'm kind of having a dilemma here. I finished my fic for NaNo but I'm still short of 50K. In all my years of doing this, I've never experienced this problem. I always run out of words before I run out of novel. It boggles!

So, to help me reach my goal, I figured I'd write something else. I don't want to start something new and add to my ever-growing list of unfinished/in-progress stories.

Therefore, I'm asking that in lieu of flash fiction Friday which I skipped because I thought I wouldn't need it and I was wrong, I'm asking for prompts! My only requirement is that they be for an existing universe of mine, complete or not, that way I'm not tempted to start a whole new series or fic. It can be a current fic or one that's been finished for five years. I'm not picky.

Help a writer out? I've got 16,000 more words to go and I'm drawing blanks! :D Oh, and there's no limit on the prompts. Leave as many as you like. No guarantee that I'll write them all but anytime I'm in the mood for fic and don't know what to write, I tend to skim over unanswered prompts. Just saying. ;)

Curse you RL! *shakes fist*

Hoo. I'm struggling. I'm clocking in at about 28,795 so far which means I'm barely keeping up with the daily demands. This'll be a close one this year. *wipes sweat from brow*

For the curious, I'll do this on my road to victory.

Right now, I stand at 16, 227 words of 50,000. That means I'm just a teensy bit ahead of where I need to be. No thanks to RL.

The story, East of Eden, is as I said, a true romance. The first I've ever written. And now, I've taken to calling it The Tale of Two Geeks, because really, that's it is. And at it's core, it's a coming of age story for a man who's in his thirties, and finally learning what it means to live. The theme song, so far is "Heads Tails" by Hotspur.

Snippet! )

I'll update word counts and bring some more snippets as the month moves along. Good luck to everyone else participating!

October kind of failed a little. *headdesk* I only managed to post once. I blame RL.

And November means NaNoWriMo! I've already started, and so far I'm on track, but RL is still kicking my aft.

I'm working on my first-ever genuine romance called East of Eden, a m/m romance that's also set in present day and contains no fantasy elements whatsoever. Another first for me!

I've discovered one thing though. Romance is hard! I'm so used to writing fics where the romance is a side-plot and an aside to the main storyline, the main problem. Now that the romance is the plot, I'm struggling to keep it going.

This is definitely a learning process for me. One more step on the road to attempting to write in all genres.

Wish me luck!

So far so good. Break of Day is really rolling right along. I've forgotten how fun it is to write Azriel and Kieran. So day 5, what's our totals?

Chapters completed: 2
Total words: approximately 9800

I'm right on track and just a little bit ahead. Go me!

Worry not. I still intend to post fics and update Wolf in the Fold this month. Keep an eye out for it. And now, back to the grind!

n_wilkinson: (day of reckoning)
Another month, another set of goals that I hope to accomplish.

November means NaNoWriMo so that's the majority of my focus this month. I'm going to be working on Break of Day, Part II for all of you that have been patiently awaiting updates to this series. I plan on posting word count progress and snippets of the fic as I go, probably every 5 to 10 days.

If there's any interest, I'll start posting a fic request day in December. Just keep that in mind.

I will also update Wolf in the Fold this month and add a couple more ficlets that I'm editing as we speak.

I'm also hand-writing Shady Hill, so that will add to my word count.

Let the writing begin!

n_wilkinson: (day of reckoning)
Nycthemeron is done! Yay! All I have to do now is edit and post for your reading pleasure. :)

I've decided that hand-writing novel next on the list will be Shady Hill, if only so that I can mark it complete and get to working on the next draft.

Break of Day, Part II is my NaNo choice but if it proves that it doesn't want to play ball, I may change my mind halfway through. But for now, Part II here I come!

If anyone else is particpating in NaNoWriMo 2013, you can friend me. I'm dracoqueen22 on there.

n_wilkinson: (day of reckoning)
As I work on building my profile and my fics, I've finally managed to come to some decisions. :)

For NaNoWriMo, I will be focusing on Break of Day, Part Two. Huzzah!

I will be editing/tweaking/smoothing out Aftermath and I will be self-publishing that in 2014. Yay!

And I will be editing, re-drafting, and seeking beta/editors for Synesthesia, and that I will start submitting to agents/publishers, etc in 2014 as well. Moving on up!

My new fic finally has a title: East of Eden. This will be my first ever pure romance. I'm excited about it!

I'm a few pages short of finishing Nycthemeron. Great news! Now I just have to pick which book I intend to work on by hand-writing next. So many decisions.

With November 30th right around the corner and my muses refusing to cooperate, now's as good a time as any to validate my word count and mark myself a NaNo winner.

Today I'm on chapter six of Shady Hill and still going strong! Turkey Day will see a lapse in writing as I'll be spending all day either working or driving (what luck!) so I'm not anticipating much word adding. BUT! Friday will see the return of Flash Fiction and Saturday is a day off to spend writing, writing, writing. I can't wait.

Today I bring another excerpt from Shady Hill and a word count update.

This scene is from chapter two. It's NSFW and it's very slashy and very tasty. I hope you enjoy! Just keep in mind that this is the very rough draft and I haven't edited it in the slightest bit. *grins*

As promised, today I bring you an update to the word count and a snippet of my NaNo novel, which I was finally able to get started on a week ago. Yep, I'm pretty late to the game. Luckily, I had In Darkness Dwells to boost my word count while access to my notes for Shady Hill was wavering on impossible.

Progress has been proceeding at a steady clip. Today I'm on chapter three and it's moving along swimmingly. I'm quite pleased with the way Shady Hill is turning out actually. It's even better than I could have anticipated.

Today, I bring you an extended description and summary.

Wahooo! I submitted yesterday night (early this morning) and confirmed my 81K manuscript. Yes! I am finished.

Admittedly, it needs LOTS of works and there are plotholes so big you could drive Optimus Prime through them, but still, it's done. Now I can take a break and return to something else. Namely finishing up some of these random and waiting projects.
n_wilkinson: (Default)
So I'm at 77K and approaching the end. I'm looking forward to stamping a COMPLETE FOR NOW on this beast. It's led me on a wonderful chase of highs and lows. It's going to need massive re-editing, and I'm still not fully satisfied with it.

Perhaps because it's het and not shounen-ai? Maybe that's it. I just don't like women all that much. And while I'm fond of my characters, I don't think the story is nearly as dark as it could/should be. Or nearly as amusing. I feel it's just blah....

Hmm, well time will tell. Once I get it ready for human consumption, I'll start posting it on here. Not anywhere else, but here. I'm trying to shift a lot of my activities to one site to save me on time (which I have little and little of every day). So we'll see. I dunno.

Here's hoping I can cross the COMPLETE line before the 30th!
n_wilkinson: (Default)
So I passed the mark. Now I just need to actually finish the damn thing. I'm worried I won't make it. I may have to cut some scenes, moving them to the second book. Some scenes are stalling me, so I move on. I'm concerned the story sucks. I mean, it is the first time I've written a het romance. And it's not even focused on the romance, it's more of a plot fic with romance attached. I think the romance moves too fast, that it's only a side note and when it does come, it slams the reader in the face.

I'm sensing many, many revisions in my future. And Aizen, but I hate revisions.

Still plodding along...

Already at 30K which means I'm right on schedule. Work is kicking my ass though, making it harder to stay on schedule. Oh well. I shall prevail!

I've discovered that my plot is too long for one book, so ta-da!, Infinity's End is now two books, with a possible third. I've had to go back and add to the beginning and divide it right down the middle. My goal is to finish at least one for NaNo and start the second, keep on writing up until the final day of NaNo with however many I get.

Ah, so good.

n_wilkinson: (Default)
November 1st!

As of right now, I have 5126 words. I've finished the first chapter and I'm going into the next. Why so many on the first day? Because work is a bitch and a drag, and who knows how Iong I'll have to work on it when I'm exhausted from Real Life. So on my days off, I'll rack up the numbers and slack during the days I have to work. And Monday through Friday will block me good.

So I decided to go with my Minutes to Midnight remake -- retitled Infinity's End -- and I'm actually pretty proud of it. I'm interested in this and I must admit Ione is pretty awesome and Gale is darn right cute and my other characters are neat too.

I have the feeling this is going to be longer than 50K. It's already plotted to be about sixteen chapters long... so I'm thinking 100K?

Here's hoping!
