Okay folks! It's time for another fic review! I know you're just brimming with anticipation, right? lol. Seriously though, I write these to not only help me organize my thoughts, to provide a deeper insight to a story and hope that it at least entertains.

Tonight, hopefully before midnight, I bring you the first story in a series (most likely a couplet if not trilogy) of novels all under the heading "Infinity's End". The Edge of Tomorrow is actually the result of NaNoWriMo 2009 and it's unique in that it is not a slash novel as I usually write, but the main pairing is in fact heterosexual. Though to be fair, The Edge of Tomorrow is in a genre all it's own because it's a romantic action-adventure erotic fantasy comedy. Yes, all of those in one.

Based loosely on the plot I concocted for my Minutes to Midnight series in the Bleach fandom, Infinity's End tells the story of Ione, a woman who's caught up in the middle of a war and suddenly realizes she's probably on the wrong side. Of course, circumstances help push her to that realization.

The first book focuses entirely on Ione's struggle to come to grips with the fact that her own allies have cast her aside, and all she has left to depend on are the rebels, a group of men and women she has been helping to subdue for the past couple of years. Along with this is her companion, Fenris, a wolf who is actually a spirit of the forest. Something that most of the locals believe to be demonic when he is, in truth, one of the original owners of the forest where the humans make their home. Ione's bond to Fenris (bonds with otherworldly creatures being one of my reoccurring themes in my original fiction) is one of the reasons her allies turn to her and when she is forced to flee for her life, she originally has no intentions of switching sides. It is not even a thought that crosses her mind. But coincidence (and perhaps a touch of fate) has her crossing paths with the rebels who bring with them a very familiar face -- her precious uncle who had been exiled from their home town many years before.

Ione is introduced to the rebels, to their reasoning and to their plan. But above all things, Ione is stubborn. She isn't willing to concede that she had been mistaken all along. Though her uncle and her fellow spirit make for very good cases.

Tied up in this is the relationship with the rebel Gale, rumored to be the leader of the Theravada (the rebels). Slowly but surely, the two of them slip into an infatuation that only deepens with time. Ione's loyalties start to conflict and nothing's simple, not anymore.

There are strong hints of a slash pairing between the "boss" and Kieran, Ione's uncle. The hints are not just baseless hints. In truth, Kieran and the "boss" are indeed a couple, though the chance for abandoning doubt in this doesn't hit until the second book. Kieran and the "boss" can be most easily equated with Kisuke and Sousuke, two characters from Bleach whom I only ever hinted at being "special friends" in Minutes to Midnight and never delved into more. "Infinity's End" is giving me that chance to do as I wish.

One thing I thoroughly enjoy about this series is that  I have a wide and varied cast of characters to choose from and play with, leaving many openings for additive fictions and possible fanfictions. (I do so love to fanfic my own works). There are ten unique personalities within Theravada alone (not counting the main five characters: Ione, the boss, Kieran, Gale, and Ophelia). Outside of that, there are at least twenty unique personalities within Grayshire, the city that comprises Ione's former home.

Even though I don't like writing females, I particularly enjoyed writing Ione because she is almost the complete opposite of our society's perception of what a woman should be. Though she is still feminine enough to not be confused for a man. She is strong-willed and determined, as well as open-minded. She has no need for marriage or children because she has ambition, and she is more sexually liberated than some of her fellow classmates having been in a long standing sex friend relationship with one of her best friends. She is a soldier, rather than a scientist or some such, but she has her weaknesses as well. She is very naive to things at times, and has trouble reconciling that there are layers to people. She also has the tendency to be oblivious to certain things around her, and sometimes, her inner monologue breaks, causing her to speak her thoughts aloud without any filters.

I will say that the characters do start out a little shallow. And it seems, at first, that the rebels can do no wrong. But in Whispers of Yesterday we learn a LOT more about the rebel side of the war. And the sort of things the rebels are guilty of. Gale's and Ione's relationship experiences it's first true test as Ione learns sides of Gale she didn't know existed before, and she begins to understand the meaning of war.

The Edge of Tomorrow is finished. I haven't yet started on the sequel Whispers of Yesterday but I plan to do so in the future. Also, a prequel starring Kieran and "the boss" and how they met/ended up together is also in the works.

At the moment, The Edge of Tomorrow is in the process of being posted on both my personal website (http://dracosdebauchery.tripod.com/id215.html) and on adultfanfiction.net (http://original.adultfanfiction.net/story.php?no=600101704). If there is anyone who would prefer to read it on my livejournal, just let me know and I'll post it on here as well.

*edit*

Adultfanfiction.net will only carry the first eleven chapters. The rest of the novel can be found on my livejournal or on my homesite.
