Another character highlight for your perusing pleasure.
Universe: Infinity's End
Character: Azriel Hadley
Azriel Hadley is the main protagonist of the fantasy novel “The Break of Day” along with Kieran. He is also a prominent character in the sequel trilogy Infinity's End.
Azriel is the only son of Asher Celestine, heir to the house of Celestine. However, because his parents were unmarried at the time, Azriel is considered an illegitimate child and has no claim to the Celestine house. His mother, Neorah, is the head healer of the Vidya, and a force to be reckoned with.
Azriel grows up despising his birth father for the ill treatment his mother was given. He is, however, close to his uncles, twin brothers Aidan and Adair. He refuses to allow them to give him any kind of financial aid or influence and prefers to succeed on his own terms. Every encounter with Asher Celestine has left both of them furious and worse off than before.
Azriel resembles his father greatly, a fact which brings him no small amount of distaste. His brown eyes and hair mark him as a member of the Celestines, and his facial structure strongly matches Asher's, especially as he gets older. He is of average height, with a build that matches his scholarly background. He has basic training in martial arts, what he learned in the Conservatory, but his greatest strength lies in his magical abilities.
At a young age, it quickly became obvious that Azriel was gifted in the magical arts. He passed easily through Conservatory, graduating at the top of his class, and worked his way into a position within the Skyla. He was often looked down upon for his background and experienced many ups and downs along the way. Azriel is best known for his skills in defensive and reflective magic and his initial mana is wind-based.
Azriel actually attended Conservatory with fellow characters Kieran Azura, and Lilah and Souya Tegan. Conservatory was where he met Kieran who would become his best friend, and later, his lover and mana-soulmate. Before then, Azriel had other relationships but both ended on good terms.
Azriel's first familiar was Manah who found him when he was a child and introduced him to the spirits. He met Orion when he was older and they bonded as well, making him one of the magically strongest characters in the series. By the end, the only one stronger is Gale.
As a member of the Skyla, Azriel was privy to a history that the public at large did not know. For a time, he also served as Gale's mentor and steward. He is also exposed to the truths that the Arlen family keep for Grayshire. He becomes angry and disillusioned and vows to put an end to Grayshire's reign.
He is the one to begin the rebellion, gathering like-minded individuals and creating a plan to bring peace and equality to Meropis. However, he recognizes the value of secrecy and has yet to be outed as a member of the Theravada. Too many underlings, he is known only as The Boss and has never been seen. He is the leader but leaves many of the day to day operations to his lieutenants, Tanya, Gale, and Sabriel.
Azriel constantly shuffles between Paragon and Meropis in order to maintain appearances. It causes quite a strain, both mental and physical, but for the sake of a new world he has envisioned, Azriel will suffer anything.
Azriel has a secret talent in playing the violin, but he is not one to share this with save a select few. He's an intensely private individual who does not make friends easily and lets very few into his heart. Kieran is one of the first to have ever gotten under his skin.
He is not a huge drinker, preferring wine over anything else. He will drink tea no matter the flavor, either sweetened with honey or not at all. His favorite flavor is blackberries and he's quite fond of the color green. Though Kieran often drags him along, Azriel does not like shopping and Kieran's messy, disordered nature can be irksome. Azriel is a fan of order and organization.
You can read more about Azriel in both The Break of Day and Infinity's End, which are currently in-progress.
